Common questions about renovating with us
Can’t find what you’re after? Get in touch and ask us directly.
We renovate homes across Greater Hobart, including the inner city, northern suburbs, the Eastern Shore and Kingston/Blackmans Bay to the south. See our Areas We Service page for the full list of suburbs we cover.
Yes. We work with plumbers and electricians licensed through Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) — Tasmania’s building and licensing regulator — on every project, hold appropriate insurance, and provide compliance certificates for waterproofing, plumbing and electrical work.
Every wet area we renovate — bathrooms, ensuites, and laundries where relevant — is waterproofed to AS 3740, the Australian Standard for waterproofing of domestic wet areas, and signed off with compliance certification.
Get in touch via our contact page or call us directly. We’ll arrange a time to see the space, talk through what you’re after, and put together a detailed, itemised quote — not a rough estimate.
Yes, our quotes are itemised and fixed for the scope agreed at the time of quoting. If anything changes once we’re on site — which does happen with older homes — we’ll always talk it through with you before any extra cost is incurred.
It varies with the season and the size of the job, but we’d suggest reaching out as early as possible once you’re seriously planning a renovation, so we can schedule your project and account for material lead times.
We manage the compliance side of renovation work — plumbing and electrical certification, and building permits under Tasmania’s Building Act 2016 where required — and will tell you upfront if your project needs council or planning approval before we start.
Tasmania has two separate heritage systems that can apply — the Tasmanian Heritage Register (administered by Heritage Tasmania) and local heritage precincts under the Tasmanian Planning Scheme (administered by your council). We check which, if either, applies to your property before finalising plans. Our guide on renovating a heritage home in Hobart explains the difference in more detail.
Renovation work is covered by the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law — regardless of what any individual contract says, services must be provided with acceptable care and skill and be fit for the purpose you made clear. The ACCC’s consumer guarantees guide is a good plain-English reference if you’d like to understand this in more detail before signing with any renovator.
